Framing, Highlighting and Complementing
Today’s lesson is about color.
1. What color dominates your closet?
Wow this question threw me for a loop; I really thought it would be something more colorful but it’s gray, but not overwhelmingly so. Now granted I have mostly only my winter wardrobe out, but it seems to be that I have a lot of grays and silvers. In the summer I would say I’m very colorful with a focus on purple. But I also tend to lean towards black staples, like a turtle neck or a blazer, or some sort of sweater wrap. I figure that I could always add color to the black foundation.
2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis?
For winter I’d like to be in the navy blues tones. Navy blue seems to go great against my paler skin in the winter. And it’s very crisp against the cool whites and grays of winter. In the summer I’d like to have nice beachy colors for example pale blues, soft yellows, white, maybe a bit of a berry tones.
3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?
Mix it all but everything in moderation. Now you can wear Kelly green and yellow but you don’t want to look like a Green Bay Packer. It could be a nice yellow sweater over a white top with a pop of green by the way of a belt, jewelry, or some ballet flats. Everything in Moderation. There used to be a thing about mixing brown with black and blues and blacks almost have that same vibe. I say pfft. A nice brown boot with a black blazer is fine but everything else has to be neutral. Even wearing all of the same color is too much, so do an accessory to break up the color. On the same level I find that matching the shoe to the belt and or purse is a bit much. Use those items to highlight your wardrobe.
4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?
Accessories, Accessories, Accessories! No really. I have a friend who will remain nameless, but she knows who she is, who wears a mostly black wardrobe but she is afraid to wear accessories. Now this girl is petite so she cant wear huge scarves or chunky jewelry but she can do a nice belt or a cool shoe that have a bit of color. One day after watching me do a few 30x30’s maybe she’ll take the plunge and try some color. I also use colors to brighten up my mood as well as use bright colors to enhance my positive attitude.
5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?
Wows there are too many to list. Almost everyone knows Kendi from Kendi Everyday and if you don’t check out her blog you should, she does a great job in putting together colors that you wouldn’t think went together. Also Liz from 26 and Counting is very subtle with her color integration but she does it so well, she could be a muse for those who want to add color slowly into their everyday looks. But I must emphasize there are so many out there.
It is not about making two colors work but more of finding ways to enhance each color by framing, highlighting and complementing.
I am still learning about colors and using them, but there is always a new way to join colors together that never would have crossed my mind. It does help to see what other people do and try to carry that in to my own looks.
To get an idea on how others thing of color check out the Friend Friday list
As with everything in life you want moderation, right? Whatever ♥
30X30 Day 8 Wicked Awesome Apps Wednesday
This is going to be a short but hopefully sweet post. Because I am presently occupied with something that finally arrived last night.
Tada! My new iPhone!
I’ve been setting up and playing with this baby all night and all day since it hit my hands. I think it’s the coolest phone I’ve had yet. I am currently watching a Netflix movie on it as I type. (don’t ask me what, I wont own up to what I'm watching, and no its not any of the Twilight movies) Never mind about that.
So on to the 30x30 deal.
(H&M grey sweater, Express navy shirt, AE corded skinnies, Madden Girl brown boots, handmade necklace.)
Ok that’s it. Back to my new little toy.
By the way this movie really is starting to suck.
I still wont own up to it. Whatever ♥

30x30 Day 7 If Its Tuesday This Must Be Belgium
Just so you know I’m in a bit of a rush in getting this post out. I was supposed to get my new iPhone delivered to my house but the driver at FEDEX screwed up. He said no one was home but my father said he saw the truck and no one rang the bell. WTF? So now I have to go out of my way to go and get it myself, but I have to wait until 8 pm. Oy gevalt!

30x30: Day 6 Why So Much Purple?
I’ve got the serious case of the hiccups and I’m going to make this post short.
Why so much purple? Because I love it, its my favorite color. Why I did it today, I did it because there needed to be some color in my wardrobe instead of basic black. So I layered the purple.
I want to thank my friend Karen for taking my shoots today again.
(Target black cashmere turtleneck, H&M white tee, ballet flats and purple geometric scarf, Charlotte Russe denim jeggings, Tokidoki watch and purple moto jacket, purple and silver bangles from India, unknown patent leather braided belt.)
The bridge behind me is called the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge on the other side of the bay is the Bronx.
Apparently my friend Karen said I looked like a vampire with this jacket on, because of my white skin and dark hair. I thought it would be my serious stare.
I am still hiccupping. I’ve tried everything to stop nothing is working.
HICCUP! HICCUP! Wh HIC! at CUP! ever ♥

30x30: Day 5 Stars and Stripes Forever and Super Bowl Sunday
I just want to say first of all, I loved this location for the shoot. So many options shots with textures backgrounds and props. I had so much fun playing on the blocks, jumping back and forth. The steps though were a little scary as they were shaking. Oh and thanks to my photographer Karen.
(MNG yellow cardigan, H&M blue tee, Vintage Echo stars and stripes scarf, AE beige skinny cords, Spotted Moth brown boots, Unknown belt.)
A view of midtown Manhattan see the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building.
Think I had a little to much fun here.
A view into Queens, Queensboro Bridge in the background.
A bit of the skyline.
Random statues posed on a block wall and the brick building that stood in for my backdrop.
As I am writing this post the super bowl is in the 3rd quarter, The Greenbay Packers are leading with a score of 21to the Pittsburg Steelers 17. I did a money pool at work and I’m hoping for 3 field goals for the Packers so I can win a little bit of money. I want the Packers to win no matter what. Go Packers!
Really I am not a football fan.
I just want some money. Whatever ♥
